The funds raised through the Cars for Cancer Lottery assist the Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI), the Mater Prostate Cancer Research Centre, Multiple Myeloma, Breast Cancer and the Queensland Cord Blood Bank.
These facilities are working on a number of projects including:
- Prostate cancer clinical trials
- Developing a therapeutic vaccine for breast cancer that stimulates the body’s immune system to destroy the cancer
- Researching the complications in treating Leukaemia patients, especially in regards to bone marrow transplants
- Creating a well stocked cord blood bank which will aid in the life-saving treatment of young cancer patients
